As you are aware our next meeting will be held in September but in the meantime we are continuing to work on your behalf and are available to hear your queries and comments.

The CCI Annual Conference was held in Kilkenny in mid June. Castlebar Chamber was represented by Regina McGarrigle, President.

Are you aware that the due increase in the national minimum wage came into effect on July 1st raising it from £4.40 to £4.70 per hour. This represents the first of 2 increases, the next one is October 1st when the minimum wage becomes £5.00 per hour.

We are undertaking a Web Awareness Survey. This is a follow on to a survey we carried out three years ago and we are now looking to update our statistics. We hope that this will give us new figures on internet usage in Castlebar. Two surveys will be carried out, one for businesses and one for private individuals. We would appeal for your co-operation if our research team calls on you.

We still have vacancies on our Student Summer Job Scheme. If you know of somebody who may be interested in working with us please contact the office.

We are still looking at trade options with Hochstadt in Germany. If you are trying to source raw material, new markets, etc let us know. We may be able to help.

Congratulations to the Server Project Team who have won £78,000 in CAIT funding to implement a project which aims to make technology relevant and accessible to the entire community. This project will commence shortly.

For the third year running CCI have undertaken their labour force survey. This year two surveys were published

  1. economic immigration and recruitment of non-nationals
  2. childcare in the context of labour market shortages

Copies of both are available.
