Occupational Sports First Aid Course
Mayo Sports Partnership will host a two day course in occupational sports first aid on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March in Ballyheane Castlebar.
This course is fully certified with details given below and will be delivered from a sports perspective.

Note that this course is offered to Sports Volunteers at a subsidised rate and the fee for this fully certified course is €80, normal rate can be up to €200. Private individuals working in the sporting arena can also book a place (if available) for a fee of €100. Contact the office at 094-9047025 immediately to book.
Course content:
Module 1. Accident management. Principles of First Aid. Primary and Secondary survey. Contacting the emergency services. The Chain of Survival.
Module 2. Bleeding, wounds and shock. Treatment of all blood injuries. Classification of wounds. Symptoms of shock and treatment.
Module 3. Respiration and consciousness. The respiratory system. The ABC of First Aid. Hypoxia, concussion and compression. Fainting. Infantile convulsion.
Module 4. CPR for Adult, child and infant. Treatment of choking for Adult, child and infant.
Module 5. Fractures, Sprains, Strains and Dislocations. Signs and symptoms and treatment for all injuries.
Module 6. Burns, scalds and poisons. Signs and symptoms and treatment for all related injuries.
Module 7. Medical Emergencies, Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, Stroke and Diabetes are some of the emergencies dealt with in this module.
Module 8. Lifting and monitoring of a casualty. Contents of a standard First Aid kit.
Module 9. Revision.
Most modules involve practical sessions so full participation is required. An exam will be conducted at the end of the course. This will contain oral questions, practical skill and Adult CPR. Upon successful completion of the course students will be awarded an Occupational First Aid Certificate.
Child Protection in Sport Workshop (Basic Awareness Course) for Westport
Mayo Sports Partnership is hosting a 3 hour workshop titled Code of Ethics and Best Practice in Sport in Westport on Tuesday 3rd March 2015. The workshop will take place in the Quay Community Centre, Springfield, Westport from 7pm - 10pm. A course fee of €15 per participant applies.
This ‘Child Protection in Sport' training is for Children's Officers and/or Designated Persons, Sports Leaders and other adults involved in the organisation of sport for young people.
The training will enable Children's Officers/Sports Leaders to:
· Implement best practice in protecting the welfare of participants
· Create a child-centred environment within the sports club
· List categories of abuse and some indicators associated with abuse
· Make appropriate response to a disclosure
· Make a report to designated officer or appropriate Statutory Authorities
