Call for Events

Mayo Trails Partnership in association with Mayo Sports Partnership facilitate an annual initiative to promote walking and cycling as an enjoyable way towards a healthy and active lifestyle. In 2014 over 20 communities throughout the county participated in walks with 16 cycling events taking place during Bike Week. The initiative proved to be an outstanding success with people of all ages and abilities participating. Based on its success a calendar of events will be once again be co-ordinated to promote walking and cycling during the month of June. This year National Bike Week takes place from Saturday 13th to Sunday 21st June.

The programme is promoted under the banner of "Mayo in Motion Walking and Cycling Month" and communities are invited to schedule walks or cycles in their locality which will then be advertised by us in the local media and website.

If you or your community/ workplace are interested in participating in this initiative please complete a registration of events form, see attached, and return it to the undersigned by Tuesday 2nd June. This date is necessary in order to compile a timetable of walks for promotion to the local press.

Also as part of this year's initiative a Community Walking Activation Programme is being promoted to get communities walking. In the initial year of this programme, 2015, the programme will be available to 6 communities in Mayo who do not have any formal walking group. A trained facilitator will attend 6 sessions and provide advice / resources which will help the group become sustainable.
