The DeCare International 5 mile Road Race and Fun walk will be held on June 23, 2007.  This will be the seventh annual Road Race/Fun walk.  Each summer, dedicated walkers, runners, volunteers and fundraisers contribute to the event, which takes place on the roads of Claremorris.  This year, there is an added dimension to the event, which will feature Fancy Dress participants! 

A number of companies and local businesses make contributions each year in support of the event. Funds raised over the years combined with corporate contributions have assisted a number of groups including:  Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Bright Eyes, Mayo General Hospital (ultrasound equipment) and The Mayo Cancer Support Association.  This year, all funds will be in aid of the Mayo Cancer Support Association. 

The Mayo Cancer Support Association offers emotional support and practical help to people with cancer, their families and friends.  Rock Rose house is a “drop-in” center where people with cancer may access support and information, and attempts to lessen the fear associated with the word “cancer.”

There are various support services available at Rock Rose House, which include: Reflexology, Massage, Stress Management, Aromatherapy, life coaching, and a wig service.  The Centre aims to provide support and assistance to people living with cancer.

The Road Race Committee would ask for all the support possible, no matter what it is.  Spread the word about the Race/ Walk! There has been great progress made in various aspects of cancer research, care and support.  Your contributions do make a difference.

Registration begins at 4 PM in the Dalton Hotel, Claremorris. The Race will commence at 6 PM.  Remember, for those who choose to dress up, there will be a competition for best costume or costumes.  People may enter individually or as a team. It’s a great opportunity for friends to get together and have a bit of fun with the evening!  Usual Prizes will also be awarded.
