This week the Family Centre, Castlebar are presenting a talk in collaboration with the Mayo Education Centre on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying with Jeremy Pagden.
Internet safety and cyber bullying are two of the biggest concerns facing parents, teachers, students and young children in the modern age.This seminar will help to raise the awareness of parents and school staff on a range of important topics including:The dangers of using social media, Cyber bullying, Internet predators, Safe use of apps, Cyber Theft, etc. The programme will show what children & teenagers get up to on the internet and you will receive practical advice on parenting in the modern age and how to monitor internet activity as well as lot s of practical solutions.
Date: Tuesday October 24th at 7pm. Venue: Mayo Education Centre, (beside the GMIT), Westport Road, Castlebar. Free of Charge.

Common Sense Parenting Programme. This parenting course is a 6 week skill based parenting programme for parents/guardians of children attending either Primary or Secondary School (6 to 16 years) and will run for six mornings from 10am to 12 noon beginning Monday 6th November The programme aims to give parents/guardians the skills and tools necessary to help their children have good boundaries. We also aim to help the parents/guardians equip themselves with the skills to manage challenging or difficult situations with their children as they grow up. Cost €20 (for the skill book)
A talk on How food affects your mood from 8pm to 9.30pm on Monday 6th November. It is well accepted that what we eat can affect how we feel. By neglecting our nourishment we can increase our emotional vulnerability, especially during stressful times. Understanding how our brain functions and the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy mood can be of huge benefit in determining your regular food choices. This evening's programme will examine how some foods can affect how we feel and we will provide information on how you can support your own mental, physical and emotional wellbeing through nutrition. (People with special dietary needs or restrictions should consult their GP or Dietician).
