The Wild Atlantic Way Charity Cycle Challenge 2015
May 8th - May 22nd, 2015 Launched on Friday 13th February in Westport by Michael Ring TD
Supporting The Irish Cancer Society and Western Care Association

The Irish Cancer Society and Western Care Association are organising a Charity Cycle Challenge along the route of the Wild Atlantic Way, commencing in Kinsale on Friday, May 8th and travelling up the west cost over the following two weeks to finish in Derry on Friday, May 22nd. The core group, who are Mayo based, will consist of 9/10 cyclists with a back-up team of 3/4. On each day they will be joined by local cyclists who will cycle one or more stages with them.

The Wild Atlantic Way Charity Cycle Challenge 2015
The Wild Atlantic Way is the world's longest defined coastal touring route. From its northernmost point in Donegal to its southernmost in Cork, the Wild Atlantic Way offers one of the world's most diverse and spectacular coastlines. Officially launched in February 2014, the Wild Atlantic Way is an iconic route that can be experienced by driving, cycling, walking or sea-kayaking. Along the route there are 159 discovery points that help people to discover the culture and landscape that makes the west coast of Ireland so unique.

The inaugural Wild Atlantic Way Charity Cycle Challenge will take cyclists on a two week trip through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The Challenge was officially launched by Minister Michael Ring in Westport on Friday, February 13th in The Best Western Plus Westport Woods Hotel. In attendance where Joe Brett, Fundraising Manager with Western Care Association, Lorraine Toner, Community fundraiser with the Irish Cancer Society, Bernard O Regan, Executive Director with Western Care, John O Malley, committee chair with the Westport Daffodil Day committee among other cycling enthusiasts and charity supporters.

The organiser of the event Johnny Oosten outlined the stages the cycle will take and introduced the core nine brave cyclists who will take on the whole cycle. The cycle is approx. 1600km's in total and will be broken into 14 stages.
