Castlebar and Westport have now been recognised as official Fairtrade towns and in celebration of this both committees would like to invite you to our official launch in Hotel Westport at 7.30pm on Thursday the 8th on February.
The night will include music, plenty of complimentary Fairtrade refreshments and brief speeches from

- Cllr Keith Martin, Fairtrade Westport
- Cllr Brendan Heneghan, Fairtrade Castlebar and Cathaoirleach C’bar TC
- Cllr Teresa Maguire, Cathaoirleach W’port TC
By achieving Fairtrade status we have recognised that we, the people of Castlebar, Westport and the surrounding areas can help the people of the developing world to help themselves by ensuring fair trade. The Fairtrade mark guarantees a better deal for third world producers by ensuring better wages, better working conditions, better environmental standards and most importantly independence. Through using Fairtrade products we are demanding a better deal for the producers and making a stand to the many multinational companies that put profits first and their producers second.
Achieving Fairtrade status was very much a community effort and both the Castlebar and the Westport Fairtrade Committees are very grateful of the support received throughout the bid to receive status. Once again we would like to extend our welcome to you to attend the launch as both a thank you for demanding Fairtrade products to date and also to launch Fairtrade further into our community so that we can make an even greater positive impact to the lives of the developing world producers.
