In recent years, County Mayo has seen high levels of youth suicides and in response to this the Mayo Youth Mental Health Group was established in spring 2009 to explore the feasibility of developing a youth mental health support structure in Co Mayo. The purpose of this project is to bring valuable supports to young people and offer opportunities for the development and enhancement of existing supports in the County.

Mayo Youth Mental Health Group have initiated research into the mental health needs of young people in Co Mayo and this research will be launched on Monday 23 April 2012 at 2pm in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The research will identify ways in which local agencies and communities can respond to the needs of young people and to develop a support structure that will meet the mental health and wellbeing of young people in County Mayo. It will also make a significant contribution to the existing body of expertise and knowledge amongst service and support providers.
