There will be a genuinely unique event in Hoban's Car Park, Castlebar on Sunday August 14th at 1.30pm as part of a fund raising drive to help a very special local and worthy cause.

As a part of the Newport Truck Run taking place from Ballina to Newport, over 30 trucks will roll into the car park at approximately 1.30pm and park up and give all truck enthusiasts and opportunity to get up close and personal with these fantastic machines of the road. Truck drivers will be bringing their cabs from all over the island of Ireland to support this charity appeal. The trucks will remain there until 3pm and during that time everyone is invited to come along and this magnificent sight while helping the cause. There will be music there to add to the atmosphere provided by well-known local duo, Jam Shugar, and John Kilkenny's Rolling Waves group. The Cresham Academy Of Irish Dancing will provide Irish dancing and watch out for the street entertainers too! Remember there will be some traffic disruptions while the event is in progress so watch out and follow stewards' instructions.

The cause behind the fundraiser is a young local man who was in a horrific road traffic collision on Friday 19th Feb 2016, between Charlestown and Swinford on the N5. He was a seasoned HGV driver on his way back home after a hard days work. After the accident he was in an induced coma and on a ventilator in intensive Care in Galway University Hospital where his life hung in the balance.

He suffered massive injuries to all his four limbs, his head and his torso, However his legs suffered catastrophic injuries. This has left him using a wheelchair and other aids to facilitate his future battle to walk. This man has spent the last five months in hospital where he crawled back from deaths door and underwent at least 13 surgical procedures, However he has a vast amount of surgeries, rehab, and physical therapy to endure in the future.

This fundraiser to help this brave man, his fiancée and his two young sons with their medical expenses, transportation costs and day to day living expenses. As you can imagine their world came to a complete stand still that fateful day.
