Ian Wieczorek - Citizens of the State of Mediacy

LINENHALL GALLERY Friday 2nd - Saturday 24th September

An exhibition of recent paintings by Mayo-based artist Ian Wieczorek exploring the visual currency of digital media. "The recent proliferation of low resolution imagery as the new vernacular of contemporary reportage and societal experience provides the starting point for this body of work. Portrait-style images sourced from the internet are rendered in the traditional medium of oil on canvas and presented without reference to their original contexts. Residual, ephemeral and ghostly, and transcending any original journalistic intentions, they become objects of contemplation open to broader interpretation, assuming more malleable, subjective signifi cance." Ian has worked from the Custom House Studios in Westport since 2007. He has exhibited widely in group/selected shows (Ireland, Northern Ireland, Germany, China) since 2003, including IONTAS (2005) and COE Claremorris Open Exhibition (2009). This is his 6th solo show.
