FOLK MUSIC
Lumiere's self-titled debut album brought together two distinct voices cut from the same geographic cloth. One is Éilís Kennedy, whose sound has ready access to the soul without need for scaffolding or spotlights. The other half of the musical whole is Pauline Scanlon, an award-winning singer from the same Kerry town of Dingle. Since their debut, the duo has toured its distinctive sound from cosy snugs to international concert halls, and a worldwide audience has connected with their offering of real music by real singers communicating real emotions. With My Dearest Dear, Lumiere is now confident in and conscious of the strengths of its own unique sound. Lumiere's songsheet, described as "both a postcard from home and an artistic passport to a wider world", draws from the Irish tradition, as well as more contemporary voices such as Susanne Vega, Sandy Denny and Tony Small. An evening of musical authenticity and honest emotion in the intimate setting of the Linenhall.
