You, the Living (Du Levande) - Tuesday 16th September @ 8.00pm
Sweden 2007 95mins
A highly subjective and darkly witty series of fifty mini-portraits of the human race at our present moment in Western history by a truly original filmmaker. Director Roy Andersson described the film as a “mosaic of human destinies” on the theme of “how to behave around others”, using farce of the darkest hue cut through at times with unexpected affection to address existential strife in an oblique and surreal fashion. Ultimately, his tableaux vivants are haunting compositions of humorous despair and depravity that brand themselves indelibly on one’s brain.
“Rare and covetable genius.” - Sukhdev Sandhu, Daily Telegraph
“You, the Living is a very funny film - though in the darkest possible way. It is a silent comedy, but with words. Profoundly different…this is the work of a real original - I might almost say a genius.” - Philip French, The Guardian
