Castlebar Adventure Duathlon Race itinerary 2016.

Race Information
READ CAREFULLY.

Sign on at An Sportlann, Mc Hale Park, Castlebar on Friday March 18th from 6pm to 8pm and on Saturday morning from 7.45am to 9.30am. (Watch out for registration signs in the building) YOU DO NOT NEED A ONE DAY TI LICENCE FOR THIS EVENT.

This 39k Adventure Duathlon is the final round of the Ireland West Duathlon

If you have pre entered just collect your, timing chip, race number (pin to the front of your jersey) and bike number (stick to handlebar stem), if you haven't pre entered then fill out the necessary forms at sign on.

Remember if you forget to wear your number or timing chip, you will NOT get a time or a Result, same applies if you cover them up.

Bike Racking:

The Transition area will be open from 8.00am atSpringfield Playground (At the back of the Bike Clinic shop) 500m from Sign on, remember there is limited parking here.


Car Parking

Its best to park at the Back of An Sportlann as there will be showers there after the event or else at Mayo Movie world Cinema or Lidal car parks.


Race Start
Race (39k ) start together at 10am

Race briefing, at 9.55am at the start area at Springfield Playground.


The Race Route:

The event will start and Finish at Springfield playground, this beautifully laid out playground it's a perfect setting with vast open space for spectators to lounge while taking in the electric atmosphere of the event, children can play in the safety of a closed in environment while parents watch on.

The first run starts at the back of the Bike Clinic and heads down the new Greenway to Turlough, after 2.5k take a sharp turn left uphill onto the old Turlough rd, keep left all the way in to Rowan drive and follow the arrows and marshals to Transition at Springfield playground.

Fit your helmet and get your bike and cycle out Rowan drive following all arrows and marshals instruction, at the top of Rowan Drive you will be going right and 40m later right again on to the old Turlough road, go through the village of Turlough with caution as it's a busy little village, turn left for Parke, its up a long steady drag, caution through Parke, keep straight till you meet the Pontoon road, from there its 12k back to Castlebar, a quick turn left up Curdesh drive followed by a right turn and after 800m a left turn to Rowan Drive, again proceed with caution into Transition.

The last 5k run is an out and back course, keep to the right on way out and on the left on the way back as you will be meeting fellow runners.

The turn is just before the N5 tyre centre and the Finish is over the bridge back outside Springfield playground.


Transitions

Your bikes must be left at Transition at Springfield playground before the start of the event, (open from 8am) best to access this by car from Rowan drive or at the back of the Bike Clinic, this is 500m from the sign on venue at An Sportlann Mc Hale road.

On the morning of the event you can leave you bike in the marshaled transition area. All competitors will be wearing a race number for the event , please rack your bike in accordance to your race number as this will help you find your bike when you go into transition during the event.

Race numbers will be issued at race registration with your pack and your electronic timing chip "ankle bracelet"

The bike transition within the event will be safe and secure.

You will need to pick up your bike from the main transition area by 12.30pm, so that we can tidy up.

 

Race Rules:

Please note that as with all Duathlon, drafting is prohibited and penalties will be implemented if and when caught. Please familiarise yourself with Triathlon Ireland/ITU rules if you have not already done so. Obey the rules of the road at all times whether cycling or running.


Refreshments

There will be Water, fruit, jellies and available at the finish line.

What time can I see the results?

Once every competitor has finished we will have a draft results for the prize winners only. Draft results will be available on www.racerace.ie later that evening and results proper will be issued by Monday 21st March

 

Showers

These will be available at An Sportlann till 12.30pm only.


Prize-Giving

Will take place at An Sportlann from around 1pm
