Key Personalities to share thoughts on "Inclusion through Sport" Are we succeeding?
Mayo Sports Partnership will launch its new Strategy and Action Plan 2017-2021 in Ballinrobe Golf Club on Monday 16th October at 8pm. Caitheoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Richard Finn and Minister for Community and Rural Development Michael Ring will officially launch the new framework which plans to further deliver on its commitment to the people of Mayo, greater participation in recreational sport by all.
Mayo Sports Partnership is a Sport Ireland initiative, hosted locally by Mayo County Council and supported by local agencies / stakeholders. It seeks to establish a vibrant culture of participation in sport and physical activity by all sectors of the population, promoting the benefits of exercise and unifying the efforts of all organisations and agencies interested in promoting sport in Mayo.
As part of Social Inclusion Week in Mayo the launch will be followed by an interactive forum with the title of " Inclusion through Sport in Mayo. Are we succeeding?". Facilitated by MC Liam Horan of SlĂ Nua Careers the forum will include some well known names in the sporting arena including Mayo GAA team manager Stephen Rochford, Mid West Radio Sports Editor Angelina Nugent, Paralympic Athlete Gerry Towey, Special Olympics co-ordinator Teresa Warde and FAI Intercultural co-ordinator Des Tomlinson. They will be joined by local and national policy makers Minister Michael Ring, Pat O Connor Board Sport Ireland, Siofra Kilcullen Head of Community & Engagement Mayo County Council and Chairman Mayo Sports Partnership Cllr Brendan Mulroy.
The open forum will explore aspects of sporting life including issues such as:
- Participation amongst target groups such as women, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged groups
- Harnessing lifelong activities such as walking, cycling, swimming, jogging to engage target groups in physical activity
- Reducing drop off in physical activity at key transition points in life
- Local and National Policy to make physical activity an easy choice for all
As previously stated the forum is one of the key Mayo events during Mayo Social Inclusion Week, which is taking place from the 16th to 20th October and is being organized by the Mayo Sports Partnership.
