Feile na Tuaithe, Turlough Park
A Celebration of Country Life Today
Ceiliúradh ar Shaol na Tuaithe Inniú
Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 May 2005 from 11-5pm


Held  in association with The Connaught Telegraph, Mid West Radio and Cashin Print, Féile na Tuaithe is a combination of craft and artisan stalls, music, children's activities and a superb programme of demonstrations and lectures. It's all completely free and runs from 11-5pm on each day.


PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

Saturday 14 May
11-1pm Live Broadcast from Féile na Tuaithe by Mid West Radio
All Day Filming of Féile na Tuaithe by Nationwide. Presented by Michael Ryan and Mary Kennedy, this programme will be broadcast in its entirity from Turlough Park on Monday 16 May '05

Food and crafts:

Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 May : 11-5pm
Crafts: Pottery, weaving, basketmaking, woodturning, timber products, model boats, stained glass
Food stands: Cheese, butter, shellfish, chocolates, speciality breads, jams, plants and organic soaps

Demonstrations: 12-4pm:

Saturday 14 May
Jewellery-making with Breda Haugh, Spinning with John Shiels "101 Uses of Straw", Traditional Games Workshop, "Baskets Galore" with Education and Outreach Department staff

Sunday 15 May
Jewellery-making with Breda Haugh, Basketmaking with renowned traditional Basketmaker Johnny Hannon, Spinning with John Shiels,
Traditional Games Workshop, "Exploring Objects" with Education and Outreach Department staff

Music: 1-4.30pm:

Saturday 14 May
1.00-2.00pm: Kudose, young band playing a mixture of covers and original material
2.30-5.00: Clancy Sisters and Friends: Playing concertina and fiddle, Martha and Ger Clancy, grand-daughters of renowned musician, Willie Clancy, will play an eclectic selection of music ranging from Irish Traditional to Breton and Scottish.

Sunday 15 May
1.30-2.30: Clancy Sisters
2.30-4.00pm: Celtic Beat, great favourites of visitors to the Museum, Celtic Beat will entertain with a blend of traditional tunes and songs.
4.00-5.00: Clancy Sisters and Friends

Saturday 14 May
1.30-4.30pm: Art, percussion, and interactive story, with an environmental theme with Mary Lorraine McHugh
1.30-4.30: Face painting with Melanie Donighue, Rainbow Children's Entertainer
2.00-3.30pm: Traditional Games Workshop with Education and Outreach Department staff

Sunday 15 May
1.30-4.30pm: Art, percussion, and interactive story, with an environmental theme with Mary Lorraine McHugh
1.30-4.30: Face painting with Melanie Donighue, Rainbow Children's Entertainer
2.00-3.30pm: Traditional Games Workshop with Education and Outreach Department staff

Talks:

Saturday 14 May
2.00pm: "Farming at the Museum: The Past, The Future": Dr. Séamas Mac Philib, National Museum of Ireland
3.30pm: "The Sustainability of the Traditional Irish Cottage": Peter Cowman, Living Architecture Centre

Sunday 15 May
2.00pm: "The History of Organics in Ireland" Oliver Moore
3.30pm: "Creating an Orchard, Orchard Planning and Apple varieties", Pat Malone, Irish Seedsavers Association.



Of course the Museum's exhibitions are also open as usual and tours will run regularly. The Museum Shop and Café remain open until 6pm.

Féile na Tuaithe - Turlough Park is the first of what will become an annual event at Turlough Park. The beautiful site, which already attracts walkers and dog owners, is an appropriate setting for this celebration of Irish life and the comparisons and contrasts between our lives and those of our grandparents and great grandparents.
