Physical abuse in Castlebar

I know this is an emotive topic but severe physical abuse was, like in all parts of the country, handed out by the religious in castlebar.My father attended St. Patrick's N.S in the 40's//50's and was savagely beaten by the De La Salle brothers, particularly by a Brother A.... who used to froth at the mouth as he beat the boys and was transfered when too mant parents started given out about him.My father was good at school but was a ciotóg so he was beaten until he could write properly with his right hand.A number of boys who would now be placed in 'special schools' were severely beaten at times...
