The Connacht Age Groups Championships were held in Tuam and Claremorris on 2nd and 9th May with swimmers from the Castlebar Swimming club taking home a total of 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in their individual events which resulted in 4 swimmers being among the ‘overall swimmer’ award in their respective age group.
The four were:
Laura Keaveney 1st overall swimmer 16 years – Laura took gold in 100m Br.st, 100m fly, Silver 200m I M and Bronze in F/S
Sarah Caulfield 1st overall swimmer 15 years – Sarah took gold in 200m I M, 100m Br.st, 100m B/S, 100m Fly and Silver in 100m F/S
Elenor Grier-Gavin 3rd overall swimmer 15 years – Elenor took Bronze in 100m Fly, 100m Br.st,
Annie McCormack 3rd overall swimmer 12 years – Annie took gold in 100m F/S, Silver in 100m Br.st and Bronze in 200m I M and 100m B/S.

Other fine performances were produced from Fergus Sweeney, Meabh Garrick, Tony Sweeney, Diarmaid Joyce, Katie Costelloe, Rory Grier Gavin, Katie Tuohy, Fionnuala Quinn, Rory Tuohy, Aisling Walls, Brian Walls , Vicki Staunton. Elaine Joyce, many of these swimmers achieved personal best times with some making reserve finalist in their individual events

The highlights from the relay team events included 2 Bronze medals:

Boys 13-14 Freestyle relay of Conal Joyce, James Sweeney, James Caulfield and Patrick Wiseman.
Girls 15-16 Medley relay team of Aisling Bourke, Laura Keaveney, Sarah Caulfield and Elenor Grier-Gavin.

Many of these swimmers achieved Division 1 & 2 qualifying times and will go forward to represent their club at the Irish Age Groups Championships in June/July.
