MAYO INTERCULTURAL ACTION SHORTLISTED FOR AWARD
For the third time this year, Mayo Intercultural Action (MIA) is in line to win a prestigious award for their work in interculturalism. MIA has been shortlisted for a MAMA 2008 award. MIA is one of three organisations nationally shortlisted from a list of 250 entries. Now in their seventh year, the MAMA awards were set up to
recognise the people, groups, events, companies and institutions that embrace and celebrate cultural diversity in Ireland.
This is the third time this year that Mayo Intercultural Action (MIA) is in line for an award. In June of last year, the Co-ordinator of MIA, Therese Ruane received a World Refugee Award for her work in promoting cultural diversity and supporting refugees. In July of this year Ailish Irvine started work with MIA after winning the prestigious Vodafone World of Difference Award – allowing her to be employed with MIA for a full year.
The Awards Ceremony takes place in Dublin on Thursday 27 November 2007 in the Abbey Theatre. For more information, visit the website: www.mamaawards.com
Thérese Ruane of Mayo Intercultural Action (MIA) said: “This is a great achievement and a real testament to the invaluable work that MIA are doing to promote interculturalism and support new communities in Ireland. We’re absolutely delighted to be shortlisted. MIA is an organisation with very limited funding and most of the work is carried out by committed volunteers. This is a real achievement.”
