Parish
visitation For
some time now the Pastoral Council has been considering the whole area of
parish visitation for the future.
As we all know Castlebar is growing rapidly, and seems destined to
continue to do so. There are
a great many new estates with people moving into the area from abroad and
from all over Ireland.
Changing home or country can be a very difficult experience for
many people. It takes time to
settle and to achieve any sense of belonging in a new
place. The
Pastoral Council has decided to see if we can establish some visiting
welcoming teams of lay people to help the priests and others who are
already visiting. This would
be in addition to the visiting already taking place by priests, religious,
Vincent DePaul, Legion of Mary etc.
This development would be part of Christ’s work and mission, in
that parishioners representing the parish would visit in pairs to welcome
people, make them feel part of the parish, and listen to their views. It is a new step in developing a
parish for the future but a very important one we believe. This weekend at all the Masses,
the priests will speak about this new initiative. There will be a follow up
meeting
on Tuesday 13th
February,
in the Parish Centre at 8p.m.,
to provide further information and discussion on the whole idea. Anyone interested can come to this
meeting on Tuesday night.
May
God bless this new development in parish ministry and may the Holy Spirit
guide us.
