Recently discovered Latin Cross.

This cross and a previously unknown route, which they identified on the east side of Skellig Michael below the main monastic complex, were newly discovered by Michael Gibbons and Myles Gibbons while they were researching maritime pilgrimage to the monastic island. The cross is a rock-hewn Latin cross, it is still attached to the bedrock , and it is one of only three in the country found in its original state - the other two are also on the Skelligs.

This cross and the newly discovered route are hugely significant finds and they add a whole new dimension to the island’s archaeology.

Michael Gibbons will be lecturing the society in the near future - watch out for that event.
