The Mayo Historical & Archaeological Society in association with the Heritage Studies Dept., GMIT., Castlebar will host an illustrated lecture- ‘Christianising Mayo'- to be given by Mr. Chris Corlett, National Monuments Service, who has written extensively on Irish archaeology, history and folklore, and has a special interest in Mayo
Mayo is steeped in ancient monuments dating back thousands of years before the birth of Christ. These ancient monuments and places greeted the first Christians who brought a new religion to Mayo. But how did Christianity replace the old with the new and what traces, if any, of the earlier pagan beliefs survived the conversion?
The lecture takes place at the GMIT Campus on Wednesday, April 30th at 8 pm.
All are welcome.
