River Moy

The Moy system produced a total of 190 salmon for the week. The very low water levels impacted on the fishing in the upper reaches, while anglers still enjoyed good sport between Ballina and Foxford.

On the Moy Fishery, James Woods, UK, David O’Neill, Dublin, Austin O’Neill, Northern Ireland, Jean Louis Coupe, France, Miguel Angel Diaz, Spain and Gabriece Moriconi, Italy each caught a salmon, mainly on the fly. Mount Falcon yielded 33 salmon (20 released) for the week, including 9 salmon for 3 days for the Payne party from the UK. On Coolcronan, lady angler, Brona Reilly from Drogheda had 2 salmon on her first ever days fishing. Austrian angler, Chris Hagg, landed a 6 lbs. salmon on Gannon’s, while Rinanney had a reported catch of 21 salmon, with best fish at 10 lbs.

However, Foxford angler, John Sheridan, caught a magnificent 8 lbs. trout on a Tasmanian Devil while trolling. John also did well in the "Chris Downey" Cup fished on Sunday, 16 September. He won the event with 2 trout for 2.5 lbs., Mick Rutledge was runner up with one trout for 1.5 lbs. and Michael Tiernan came 3rd with a fish weighing in at 1 lbs. Elsewhere, the Lough Conn & Cullin Anglers held their annual "Paddy McDonnell Trophy" competition which was won by Michael Monaghan with a trout weighing 2.52 lbs.
