River Moy

Water levels remained moderately high in the early part of the week but started to drop towards the weekend. The overall catch for the week was down on the preceding week with a reported catch of 314 salmon bringing the total for the year so far to 2188.

Angling on the Ridge Pool was slower than in previous weeks, despite this, UK anglers David Batchelor and Garry Perks landed salmon of 5.85 and 6.66 lbs respectively. The Cathedral Beat produced a salmon for Welsh angler, Steven Barnard Jnr., and one for Scottish angler, Charles Penny while Fergus Crawford, Dublin banked a 4.75 lbs salmon fishing the worm.

Up river, on the Mount Falcon Fishery, Joe Sinclair, UK had an 8 lbs fish on the worm, his first ever salmon and he released another. Also on the Mt. Falcon water, Dennis Kelly, Wexford, banked a 9.5lbs fish while spinning. The Attymass Fishery proved lucky for first time salmon angler Ian McKend who caught a fine 13 lbs fish while spinning. On the Coolcronan Fishery, Jack Charlton caught a nice 10 lbs salmon while Dave Davidson took a 9 lbs fish. Also on Coolcronan, John Penistone, UK landed a 5 lbs salmon. Gannon’s produced a fine 12.5 lbs fish to the worm for Dublin angler Colm Adams and an 8 lbs fish for fellow Dublin angler Gerry Heaslip. German fly angler, Tobias Fackler enjoyed success on the Cloongee Fishery where he caught a grilse fishing the Bridge Pool.

Lough Conn

The number of anglers fishing on Lough Conn has dropped off when compared to earlier weeks which is normal for this time of year. Some anglers did venture out and were rewarded with fish. Sean Morran and boat partner took 4 trout for 7 lbs on the Green Peter and Olive Bumble. Jason Clarke boated 2 trout of 1 lb each fishing Sedge and Dabbler patterns.

Ballisodare River

Angling was good on the Ballisodare River with plenty of salmon running. The system produced 153 salmon for the week, 102 of which were released. The best fish of the week was caught by Michael Gallagher, a fine 14lb salmon which fell to a Shrimp Fly.

Lough Furnace

The weather during the week was not favourable for angling at Lough Furnace. Despite this, salmon were still caught with good numbers of fish holding in the lake. Swiss angler, Andres Wullimann, boated a fine 5.5 lbs grilse while Dublin anglers, Tony Murtagh and Peter Kieran caught fish of 5 and 4.5 lbs respectively. Michael Righton, UK also had a 4.5 lbs grilse.

The productive flies for the week were Ally’s Cascade and Green Peter.

Owenmore River

Water conditions on the Owenmore River were good over the week and salmon were caught throughout the system. On the Bangor Angling Club water, Bill Aston, Ballinrobe, had a 4.5 lbs grilse and a fine sea trout which he released. Also on the Bangor water, Oisin O’Sullivan landed a nice 7 lbs salmon.

Newport River

Angling on the Newport River slowed somewhat compared with the previous week. However, local Angler, Eamon Kennedy, had some good angling, landing two salmon for 7 and 8 lbs, one of which was released.

Moy Estuary

Despite less than ideal angling conditions with Northerly winds prevailing for most of the week, some good catches of sea trout were recorded from the Moy Estuary. Joe Quinlivan and 3 friends from the UK caught 32 trout for 2 days angling while Günter Hommer, Germany and 2 friends had 15 trout for their day on the estuary. Dublin anglers, Mark & Mary Walsh also boated 6 trout for a day’s fishing.

The Alice Campbell Memorial Cup was fished on the Moy Estuary during the week. Forty-two anglers competed with Declan Hennigan winning the event, Gerry McCafferty 2^nd and Alan Jackson in 3^rd place.
