Salmon Angling

River Moy
Despite an increase in angling effort in the mid and upper Moy fisheries over the past week, it has been the Ballina Salmon Anglers' water which has continued to produce salmon. Three in total were caught on their waters, with Andy Lynott landing one of 6.5lbs (pictured here), Mick Lackey landing one of 4lbs and the largest salmon of the season to date, a fine fish of 12lbs taken by Val Mitchell. All fish were caught on worm.

Carrowmore Lake
The Lake produced a further 4 salmon over the past week. On Wednesday, 14th, boat partners Trevor Morrow and Stephen Brown both had success, with Trevor landing a fine fresh run fish of 8lbs, while Stephens' weighed 7lbs. Both fish were taken on the Jaffa. Sunday 18th saw a further two fish caught on the lake, with Frank Dooley boating a fish of 8lbs, while Colin McClean, Scotland, had a nice fish of 10.5lbs. The fish caught last week were taken at the Black Banks, Paradise Bay, Glenturk and the mouth of the Glencullin River.


Trout Angling

Lough Conn
Milder weather of late has led to an increase in fly activity on the lake, coupled with an increase in angling effort leading to greater catch returns.
Some anglers enjoyed great success, with Joe Quinn, Cloghans, boating ten trout in total over three days, all caught on Buzzers. Five of Joes' trout were over 2lbs, with his best weighing a very respectable 3.5lbs and were taken in the Bog Bay and Cloghans areas. Stephen Brown, Cloghans, also had success with the Buzzer, with two of around 1.5lbs.

Gary Binley, Foxford had one of 1.25lbs to a Bibio, while nephew Ryan Binley, had two of 1lbs taken on a Duckfly. Boat partners, and frequent visitors to Lough Conn, Mick Sweeney and Liam McHugh, Loughrea, had six trout in total. Mick landed four, with his best weighing 2.5lbs, with Liam landing two, all fish taken on the Sooty-Olive.

Ronnie Chambers, Belfast, had two trout of 1lbs on the Buzzer, while Ian Wise and John Warren, Crossmolina, also had success on the Buzzer, with three trout between them in the Enniscoe and Bog Bay areas. Finally, Joe Moffat, fishing the Green Peter, had one trout of 2lbs and Harry McCafferty, Ballina had three trout on Wednesday past, taken on the Claret Bumble and Bibio.

Lough na Leibe
Lough na Leibe is continuing to fish very well with good catches reported, a total of fifty-two trout reported by six anglers for the week. Bernard McDermott caught six trout on Thursday 15th and eleven on Friday the 16th, all on secret flies which can't be revealed this close to a competition date!

Dave Cadman and friend also had eight trout between them on Friday. Francis Brady, fishing with his nephew Oisin, were on the Lough on Sunday past and were rewarded with a stunning total of twenty-two trout, in less than three hours fishing. Francis reported there were a large number of fish feeding steadily for a prolonged time on the surface.

The activity on Sunday was attributed to a substantial hatch of Duckfly on the northern end of the lake. Successful fly patterns included small Midge patterns, small Nymph patterns, Buzzers and emerging Duckfly patterns, retrieved using a very slow figure of eight or fished static.
